Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds NYC
It’s always a treat to go back to my old stomping grounds of NYC where I lived for 13 years. I saw old friends, ate good food and took advantage of the productive energy there to get a a lot of work done. But even better than all that, this time, I was invited to give Grand Rounds talk at NYU Emergency Medicine and SUNY Downstate/Kings County Emergency Medicine where I did my residency training.
It was wonderful to be able to contribute to emergency medicine training even if only a little. I strongly believe that talking about the human side of medicine and the issues at present in medicine in an honest way while still in clinical training is important. I was also able to introduce short contemplative practices and lead a compassion workshop.
"Dr. Lau's Grand Rounds was incredibly impactful for faculty, housestaff, staff, and students alike. She integrated her own teachings rooted in Eastern philosophies with evidence-based strategies to reframe finding meaning, joy, and purpose in our daily work while caring for both our patients and ourselves. Because of her deep expertise as both an emergency medicine physician and Zen priest, her message was received and resonated in a manner that other talks on similar subject matter simply can not."
